  1. Completely disagree with number 1. Just because something had a non-religious origin that was co-opted, or because a practice also coincidentally serves a beneficial purpose does not mean that the practice is not bullshit. Wasn't it Douglas Adams who talked about the religion of people who jumped because far back in history their ancestors used to jump over snakes. Yes, the origin may have been valid, but once you move from function to mere symbolism, it becomes ridiculous.
