  2. I see this differently. The thinkers and pacifists are all toothless. They die while the power brokers live long, prosperous lives. Yes, Socrates made a silly principled stance. Yes, his ideas lived on. To what end? Was the world more democratic? Did philosophy and truth make the world a better place? Do Trump or Farage or Starmer or Johnson or Putin or Musk rise to power using philosophy? Does it help defeat them? Of course not. It's an utterly toothless tiger that gives a boner to intellectuals but has no value in the real world filled with ignorant Morlocks. I'm beginning to think that those who wield swords are the only real shapers of society for better or worse.
