  1. Absolutely NOBODY believed universities operated on meritocracy. If you could have the "privilege" of claiming to have attended one of the most prestigious ACADEMIC establishments on the planet (along with the employment benefits that confers) simply because you were good at fucking _rowing_(!) then the whole system was always a farce.

  3.  Donald Ganley  I think only the most naive of people EVER believed we lived in a meritocracy. The nearest way to experience a meritcarcy is to start your own business, but even then powerful scum like Google and Facebook, and super giants like Tescos can simply wipe you out by throwing money at the problem. Capitalism is a cancer that corrupts everything it touches.

  4.  @cynthiaallen9225  You need to prove your income to take out your phone contract for goodness sakes. Do you really think that understanding the financial position of a family taking out a 50-100k loan is irrelevant? A student at university is largely supported by their parents. I think it's wholly reasonable to ask whether or not that student will have to drop out for financial reasons, wasting someone else's opportunity to attend.
