I have mixed feelings. Surely this is the epitome of cancel culture? This will empower both of their campaigns. While you're sniggering, they're fundraising off the victim narrative.

@josephde-haan1074 Cancel culture is the practice of silencing people that you disagree with. I'm all for consumer power - not buying products, not watching movies, but cancelling their events comes across as a little too like censoring free speech to me.

@josephde-haan1074 This is not a free speech issue - this is a cancel culture issue. Your first question is a fair one, and honestly, I don't know where that line falls. Clearly, if Gaetz wanted to hold a child rape conference, nobody would have an issue with it being cancelled, but he is so far not even CHARGED with an offence, far less proven guilty of one in court. Greene is a repugnant cretin that the planet could do without, but hateful as she is, this feels too close to a line for me. It reminds me of that quote, "First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." If we allow silencing of those we disagree with, by what right do WE complain if it happens to us?

If a black activist comes and hires their facility, does that improve their credibility amongst liberals? What about the loss in terms of non liberals? Whatever you say about Gaetz and Greene, almost as many Americans chose to vote FOR their party as against it. This appears to me to be political cherry picking. "your claim that these companies should not be able to choose" I never said that. I said that doing so "comes across as a little too like censoring free speech". "in your country" I'm not American. "That is the freedom alloted private business in a capitalist society." Hmmm, so you also agree with businesses (including private medical services) declining service to gay and lesbian couples? So you'd march in FAVOUR of the baker? I assume not, but it's not a black and white issue is it?

@kathyd9324 That quote has nothing to do with the subject at hand, but I understand your conclusion. I'm not saying they didn't have the RIGHT, I'm simply saying I'm not comfortable with them exercising it. For starters, it makes the left look as though they are afraid to let them speak.
