I think you're mistaken. Shapiro is suggesting that empathy leads politicians to make poor political decisions. Political decisions in the context he is using it, are decisions chosen to fulfil your political role, and the role of all elected politicians is to serve the public - by maximising the quality of people's lives. In America, it's laughably naive to believe that, but it IS what the job is supposed to be.

@H1TMANactual The irony may be that you are correct in that Shapiro's subtext is "How can you enrich yourself if you waste time with that pesky empathy?" However, his surface narrative is most definitely "How can you make good policy when you are distracted by considerations of other people's wellbeing (the definition of empathy at its most basic)." Shapiro is clearly trying to have his cake and eat it by making an argument for the good of society, whilst really only serving political self interest.

@H1TMANactual Shapiro's entire career has been an example of the way that he claims one set of values but clearly practices the opposite. How much greater evidence do you need?
