They've had that in California for years, but if it goes nationwide, then there will be real trouble. No doing without THAT for a month.

It's NEVER stupid to have more of all the essentials than your immediate needs. Time and again, we have seen how they can be snatched away at a moment's notice. It's just a shame Texans could not keep spare electricity to negate their vile scalping supplier during the winter.

@Roland D Initially. California didn't descend into instant anarchy. But I take your point. I'd start filling dozens of drums with water. I guess if water shortage became severe enough, the anarchy would not last long. Can't survive without water. I presume desalination will become more of a critical technology and properies with deep wells would skyrocket in value.

@Roland D I live in Britain, and we've had a very wet year, but our supply dries very quickly with just a month or so of dry weather. I don't think we'll see chronic water scarcity in my lifetime (I'm 57) but I feel so sorry for kids - their future looks bleak in so many ways. I really was lucky enough to live through a golden age on this planet. That law about not owning what is underneat your land is pretty amazing, but if it's used against companies that take natural resources out, it may be a good thing. So who owns what's underneath - the government?

@bokhans Of course, but our governments keep on telling us that it's a bad idea to plan for the future. That creates total dependency.

I didn't. Amazed to discover it. I've got gas sitting in motors for years. I guess I should replace it.
