  3. I think you are making a fundamental misunderstanding. Our genes determine our initial physical template, but our entire consciousness is our brain, which has formed as a result of our life experiences. The arrangement of atoms in our brain that determines memory and personality is simply data and that data could theoretically be duplicated and transferred to a suitable medium that enables it to interact as it did previously.

  4. It seems to me that the problem would be in modelling a suitable receptical in which the data interacts in the same way as the human brain. For instance, if I download the CPU from a ZX Spectrum onto a PC, the information will be there, but the organisational structure will prevent that data from operating as it did in the Spectrum. The graphics, the sound and the processing capabilities of the PC are different. Thus, we will first need to model a "brain emulator" not merely a storage device.
