I'm bewildered by how this man is alleged to be responsible for the deaths of 300,000 people when he was a junior officer and his duties were simply removing the property from the condemned. I don't know to what extent EVERY member of the SS should be held responsible, especially as it was dangerous to refuse the duties you were assigned. Moreover, since the 1980's, this man has voluntarily talked about his role at Auschwitz in an effort to combat holocaust denial. This story is far more nuanced than simply saying "SS bad - kill SS" Pat.
