  2.  @ZAGGNUT1  I disagree. Social media has reach that text forums never did. They appealled to a few dozen - few hundred people at best. In the case of the alt right, it was the confluence of nerd and bigot which was a really small pool, more comparable to a small conversation. And even NOW if I'm in a forum that has a heavy-handed moderator, I'd leave and go somewhere less restrictive. Now, social media has become the public square. Alex Jones clearly crosses the line into incitement to violence. Milo is just a dickhead like Sargon, but saying that Muslims are a threat is not even controversial. yuet it merited a ban. It may be an overgeneralising, but should people be silenced for that? I was in a politics forum and I said that Israel's treatment of the Palestinians was appalling and I got banned for "Anti-semitism". The fact is, there are external agendas at play here. Someone is consciously manipulating things so that all of our values are up for question in an existentially unhealthy manner. It has been demonstrated that Russian trolls have contributed to anti-vaxxing, as well as the political dialogue. The solution is better counter narratives, not suppression.
