  1. I'm not entirely convinced this man was entirely accurate either with modern building or ancient daubing. How would the log shrinkage TIGHTEN the daubing in between? Also, the fact that modern mortar is waterproof is exactly the point - moisture is not SUPPOSED to get in behind it, so giving it a way to escape would surely not be the point?
