I really hate the emotional manipulation by the lawyer. The case should surely be about if Jones did it or not, not about the state of society.

@pete975 Nope, I was fully paying attention. And I did not like the emotional manipulation by the lawyer in determining his penalty. This is why the US legal system is such trainwreck. It's not about justice - it's about screwing each other for as much as possible.

I'm not insulting you - I daresay what you said is correct, but given that Jones was already found guilty, seeing the prosecutor getting down on his knees and playing a sad violin came across as rather sickening to me. I think pointing to Jones' future likelihood for offending without adequate restraint is perfectly reasonable because that's very much what the case is about, but making sweeping complaints about society in general, is absolutely abysmal, and frankly, I thought that the fcat the defence lawyers sat there in silence during that grandstanding was just one further example of how poor they were.

@lateupdate I just watched Legal Eagle, and he evealed that Jones will probably only have to pay a million of this settlement. Despicable.
