^ Emphasis on If Used Sparingly. Aluminium is terrible for aspects like the hull or structure of a ship (for various reasons from fatigue life to low melting point), and use for aspects as crutial as Ladders on ships led to a large number of sailors avoidably dying / being horrifically burned, so no, quite a fair statement on his part overall. That: And Aluminium - like magnesium - burns like a holocaust when powdered for any reason, and has far fewer qualities in common with armour (which all ships today lack) than steel. As to whether the LCS is any good or not... a debate outside the subject, but one on which I have to disagree.

@pekkamakela2566 B-29 engines were made of the stuff too... until catastropic - and unextinguishable - engine fires on operations led to a less flammable alternative.

@kimpatz2189 Indeed. With a steel vessel the absolute worst that can happen is that a fire gets so hot that the decks start to warp and melt, but to do so the fire cladding would have to be near non-existant. (unfortunately the latter has also happened before, with HMS Sheffield burning so badly chiefly because of cutprice design & construction)
