  1.  @Dave_Sisson  Aye. HMS Queen Mary was supposedly to have been named HMS Panther, as indeed several other Battlecruisers had been due for similar names (Jaguar, et al); but the Queen Consort won out there. Most renamings had some sort of underlying political or pragmatic reason. HMS Indomitable (Invincible class) for instance was re-named Ark Royal to keep the name in the fleet; and to honour the previous ship to bear the name (as indeed the prior ship had been renamed to honour the WWII Ark Royal). Why the 2nd Tiger class Cruiser was named after Admiral Blake... I don't think anybody knows.

  2. Motion thirded. The duel between one of the ML's and a German Destroyer ("torpedo boat" Jaguar) is legendary. The Germans were somewhat stunned by how much resistance one little boat could give, as their deminuative opponent only surrendered after being boarded, running out of ammunition, and several prior offers to surrender.

  3. Guns are arguably far more efficient at the art of percussively dismantling persistent opponents. After all as the saying goes; A Firecracker makes a lousy Auger. (Missiles having generally terrible penetrative ability, are less space efficient aboard ship and cost exponentially more per "shot")
