British troops were also fighting as a rearguard for those [British & French] troops being evacced.

@gordonAfranks Yup. May they always be reminded of such shameful actions (as well as the fact that most narratives pushed postwar in France [mostly by DeGaulle] are codswallop), albeit - like Mers-El-Kebir - entirely the result of the French military brass having more ego & neurosis than military sense.

@anthonymcnamee6297 ...and the Navy, which made any German invasion a guaranteed failure 😉 . We should bare in mind that the Germans considered the Battle of Crete against the British to have been so costly, that the Germans never again attempted a mass airborne assault, fearing another pyrrhic action like Crete. (which was probably for the best, as UK Airbases had inward facing guns for good reason, and in greater numbers than at Crete)

Only the French military brass could turn such a relatively strong opportunity for a victory into such a crushing national defeat and humiliation 😅 . The ridicule that France's got ever since stems mostly though from DeGaulle's legendary ingratitude to the allied leaders and legions of troops that'd got him and his followers their country back. Long may we laugh at France, so they might actually learn from history enough to make their next major war something other than a humiliating defeat.

@lesp315 Agreed. Similar calls to be more decisive were loud in the UK too, but the BEF needed the French to be onboard with a major offensive, and the French brass kept dithering. It's not surprising that the Poles felt let down by their allies, as an opportunity to hit Germany hard while its back was turned was squandered.

@georgemonaco5961 Yup. People forget that Napoleon lost two wars [hard] inside of a generation & was deposed twice 😂 . That, and he was done in by mouldy wallpaper 😂

Nah. The British fared well, as proven by how despite having an undersized force of Tanks, ours actually performed well against German opposition. It was our incompetently led allies that crumpled like a wet paper bag 😮💨 . A~and Hitler never got to invade Britain, because a Navy more than eight times bigger than Germany's was in the way, with orders to steam south and blow shit up if landings were attempted.
