Hopefully not. It should also result in numerous companies boycotting California entirely, while those still in the state will be using every technicality to leave anyway.

I would bet money on this being the topic of a Great Moments in unintended consequences in a year or two ๐๐ . The Problem? Businesses are fleeing San Francisco. The Solution! The ""Grocery Protection Act"", a law that on top of existing legislation that bans retailers from defending themselves, bans them from shutting or relocating their shop out of state. Sounds like a... terrible idea, and entirely unconstitutional. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out that Retailers are a tight bunch, and don't like being tyrannized. California found itself under a blacklist from an increasing group of disaffected small and large businesses, that refused to set up in or even ship goods to California; all the while remaining Businesses in California took to running as skeleton a business as possible, all the while shifting assets out of the state to literally anywhere else, before finally just abandoning the technically open but worthless shop. Great moments in unintended consequences. Great intentions, bad results

โย @shauncatlett6066ย ...or even better, fill the shelves with fake, useless & comically heavy products ๐ (optionally weighed down with scrap iron ballast) Either way: plenty of scope for Shops to leave the state anyway by the back door, while leaving a worthless malicious compliance revenge against the ""community"" & state ๐
