@Allnimalz Well, if you think the US would have been better off under the leadership of someone who ignores basic health guidelines and values his own opinion over that of experts, who am I to argue? @mommarose7429 I don't know about that. I mean, Martin Luther King was a vocal socialist and critic of capitalism. Donald seems to represent the antithesis of everything Doctor King stood for.

There's also the fact that it was Democrats who pushed it through the House and Senate, and that it was a Democrat who signed it into law. The Republican Party literally nominated Barry Goldwater, who opposed the Civil Rights Act. Their nomination of Goldwater was one of Martin Luther King's biggest reasons for supporting Lyndon Johnson. According to Doctor King, "The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction and extremism. All people of goodwill viewed with alarm and concern the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of the KKK with the radical right".

It was Democrats who pushed the Civil Rights Bill through the House and Senate, and it was a Democrat who signed it into law in 1964. That same Democrat also ushered in the Voting Rights Act in 1965.
