@DavidSmith-op8ix Well, he was a self-declared democratic socialist. The fact that he wrote one of the most famous summaries of the flaws of communism shows that he had a very open mind.

@Kurtlane Well, socialism isn't always as extreme as communism.

@Kurtlane Socialism obviously isn't the only political system that can lead to a totalitarian state. There's also a significant difference between socialism and the national socialism of Nazi Germany which put great emphasis on nationalism, a traditional value and was extremely right wing. True socialism, like communism rejects nationalism, because of its potential to blind and spread distrust among people.

@Kurtlane The bloodshed of the Russian Revolution and events that led to the realization of the Soviet Union even violated communism in certain regards. Karl Marx made it very clear that he envisioned the revolution to occur naturally.

@Kurtlane Medicare's pretty socialist. If people listened to Bernie, more people would benefit from it.
