If they go to the length of faking the voice of the pretended victim, they will spoof the number, too. They would be stupid if they didn't. That is why people get caught in this.

@Stacksmusic that was my argument too, in cases when the person talks to you like they normally would. They cannot copy the entire way of talking from just a few sentences. But if the scene is staged that the scammer talks to you and your family member or friend is to be screaming in the background, that is different. If it was so fool proof people wouldn't fall for it.

yeah, just one minor detail that they get the PAST record, not the record you make from now on. And as hihglihgted elsewhere, everything is digital nowadays. Even people not on social media can get mimicked, if they ever spoke to a recorded line, which most companies and their customer services now have. Every day some company gets hacked and data stolen, including the voice records. The best thing to do is to educate people about this and make them take precautionary steps to be ahead of the scammers.

@Elburion yep, scary times ahead. Some spy software developed in Israel can sneak into your device without you even knowing it or doing anything. It looks for key information and when it doesn't find it, it removes itself after some time. This is how clever it is going to get. And with the AI and ever more sophisticated fabricated videos of people seemingly saying things they never said, masses will easily get fooled and knowing no more whom to trust. I am glad I might not live to those times... althought who knows... it may come sooner than anticipated. The first swallows are already here.
