  1. Whatever the history, I am a new Linuxer in 2024 and just salvaged my old Asus laptop, ex Vista boi, with 64 bit Mint XFCE. I upgraded the RAM a bit, replaced a broken hinge, cleaned inside and reapplied the thermal paste (I think they used a pad previously), gave it a sata ssd, just need to sort out the terrible sound. I have managed to put it up, as the defalt was too low, but the quality of sound is still not what I would like.
