Saying North Koreans have no sweets is misleading. They don't have such a free access to it, but they are used as a manipulation tool by the government, on special occasions. So yes, NK people do have sweets from time to time. Some are smuggled from China. Just because one man escaping from this prison and going mad about one particular product, that doesn't make it true that nobody has it there. And there are natural sweet sources from nature. Like there are no bees and honey in NK? No forests? NK even exports honey, according to the AI bot. See, it is easy to fact check these days.
