@mrrooter601 I'll put it this way: in the pandemic we all had to wear masks to protect each other from excess particles in the air. Even those who weren't infected. If you find a way how to make sure only people in their homes can switch the id off, and it won't be abused by criminals or anyone going out and using the drone irresponsibly, I am all for it.

hmmmm... nobody died from operating a small drone YET. As more and more people will have small drones, the air traffic will get denser. And someone eventually will get hurt one way or another. Imagine a drone out of control, a cyclist on the road, hit by a random drone and falling under the car. I am sure the insurance company will want to know whose drone went astray. And prosecutors perhaps will want to know that too. This is a pro-active rather than reactive approach. Your logic isn't good enough for future possibilities like this. You are acting like FDA, pronouncing a substance safe until proved unsafe, but in the EU they firstly want evidence of a substance being safe before they let it on the market. If you are flying the stuff on your property, and somebody has your location in the record, what are you afraid of? Your smartphone is traceable already. Not by your neighbours, but who has access, they can track you.

Even if drink driving is illegal, nobody can prevent you drive drunk. But you will face consequences when things go wrong.

@mrrooter601 And we are back to ground zero. Drink driving laws don't stop drink driving. Executions for murders don't stop murders. But we have a tool to find the perpetrator if something happens. So who is here either completely naive or missing the point? How many times I need to repeat it?

@markbrown8097 sounds fab, and then weed ignition lock, cocaine ignition lock (how will they do it?), and eventually you will do a strip search before entering your car, so you don't carry tools for burglary either. And if you are diabetic, you are screwed. Simply restricting who can access the database would be enough, like you advertise your whereabouts with your car and your personal details are linked to your number plate somewhere (at least where I live). Your smartphone can be traced when the need comes and hardly anyone can really escape it, especially Tiktok users. It was rumoured that even if you delete the app, it already knows your phone details and the CCP could potentially monitor you further. This is just another such thing. Nobody will go to empty your house when you are not active with your drone. But when you are, somebody can trace it. If you are not up to no good, what's the fuss?

@Acorn_Anomaly this argument goes every time something new is to be implemented. We gave up a lot of our 'freedoms' for securities and transparency. A lot of your data is already being collected and can be used against you if you commit crime. Many naive folks give their data to even foreign governments when downloading Tiktok or Temu. Electric cars with fine electronics built in can be used for surveilance without our knowledge. What's the fuss with stupid drones?
