Not necessarily. Most software engineering positions outside finance don’t require a degree. It might give you an edge if there’s another candidate with similar skills but no degree.

How do you determine whether you’re lazy or logical if relative to your peers you would be working 10x harder for ½ the result?
3
I agree, it’s the person’s abilities that matter most, not their qualifications. A smart person will do well either way. It’s unfortunate how many dumb people there are in this world.
3
Depends on how smart you are. Work smart (if IQ permits), not hard.

There’s no way to predict what will always be needed. This could all just be a simulation.

@Kinuthya How do you know that? What if in 50 years there’s AI robots that can do a better job for most or all of healthcare and it’s just engineers left optimizing the robots?
2
@jadenbrown8813 There would be a shortage of fast food workers and wages would rise for the disabled people who work there as a career. If someone isn’t disabled they have a lot of options these days thanks to the internet. You don’t need a degree to get a software engineering job.

Was it a really crappy engineering school with no access to internships?
2
The point of college is to give you something to do when you don’t know what to do. There’s far better and more efficient ways of learning almost any material taught in college.
2
How is that even possible? Did you at least lose weight while you were in a coma?

@anthonytesla8382 Hence the phrase “not necessarily” as opposed to “never”. 🤡

@anthonytesla8382 Just because you couldn’t read the first 2 words I said doesn’t make it false information. 🤡 If you want to be obtuse, one could argue your original post is spreading false information because a degree does not produce any returns. The company who hires you is what provides the return and that return is paid out in fiat currency typically which is not tangible.
1
@anthonytesla8382 You’ve missed the point completely, it has nothing to do with debating wether a degree has value. It’s obvious that many degrees have value and it’s impossible to legally obtain particular jobs without the appropriate degree.🤡

@jadenbrown8813 It’s not bad for a first job or as a temporary job but people who treat it as a “career” are basically specializing in doing nothing.
1
@jadenbrown8813 It “contributes” to society just like cigarette companies and central banks “contribute”. Regardless though, that isn’t a career and shouldn’t be treated like it is. Most fast food workers don’t even make $40k/year in a first world country, people shouldn’t rely on that as a long term solution for making money. Those kind of jobs are meant for students and disabled people, not for an able person to make a “career” out of. People can make a career out of blowing air around, I mean without air how would people live? At least blowing clean air around isn’t going to give someone high cholesterol.

@jadenbrown8813 There’s a difference between doing a mostly useless dead end job and not making much money. For example, a lot of mechanics make horrible wages yet it typically requires more skill than the average fast food worker’s job. There’s also room for a mechanic to move up the ladder typically but not so much in fast food unless you get to the corporate level or start your own business. Non-disabled people can work in higher skilled jobs but are generally too lazy to do anything else. There are always exceptions, of course so I don’t assume any one fast food worker is lazy because I don’t know their particular circumstances.

What is your IQ? If you’re bright enough and have the time and motivation it shouldn’t be too difficult barring outside factors like economic or health problems.
1
$30k of debt can be paid off in a couple months with a good job unless your cost of living is insane like in SF or NYC. The reason people don’t pay it off is if the interest rate is so low they can get a better return from investments.
1
@dom19945 It makes reading those 25 books/essays harder/easier the lower/higher your IQ is.
