@MichaelJCaboose013 Yeah mechanical engineers are generally underpaid, if you want to make more learn to code. Having an engineering degree will help you since you know a lot of the advanced math that boot camp grads without an engineering degree don’t understand.

What type of engineering? Most electrical engineers need a degree to get a job. If you did computer science I guess you could have just gone to a bootcamp but you have knowledge that boot camp grads never get unless they go out of their way to study CS.

I think you’re dismissing the fact that over the past 15-20 years the whole world has come online so they’re now spending loads of time in front of a computer so people would rather do that than risk getting injured doing a physical job.

Why would someone risk breaking their back and getting lung cancer to make $40-$100k when they can make $120k-$3m coding in a closet?

@gorkyd7912 Because that engineer has a history of solving problems that make the company hundreds of millions of dollars. Pay $3m to make a likely $300m or pay $20k for someone unproven and hope you make $302.98m? They could also lose the company a lot of money so potentially billions of dollars are at stake. Not all job candidates are the same when it comes to engineering. Also, in some cases regulations limit hiring non-US persons so the people in the US have more opportunities to prove their abilities. 1 great engineer is often worth more than 10 good engineers.

For shitty entry level jobs, all degrees are the same. The employer just uses it to weed out dumb people because on average people who graduate from college have a higher IQ.
