  6. Jimmy, I have a factual example of what it is to have "Medicare for all". In Puerto Rico we have had "la tarjetita de salud" since the 90s because the governor there was trying to imitate Hillary Clinton's health reform from that decade, and since all we ever do in the island is copy whatever someone comes up with in the main land, we actually passed it and it's been active ever since. The way it started was you had to select a primary care doctor, and if you need to see a specialist, he would either approve or disapprove your request to see a specialist, you couldn't just go directly to see the specialist, and that still holds up to this day, so you have to wait even longer to be seen for something that is ailing you just because you have to schedule two appointments instead of one, not to mention that the specialist you want to see has to be one of the doctors that actually accepts la tarjetita de salud. Something that changed was that in the past you could get the best medication for the treatment, as in the branded ones, but when that became impossible to pay, they switched to the generic ones. La tarjetita de salud was supposed to be for low income families/people only, but even those who made a good amount of money (not necessarily a lot) but were originally unbelievable, found a way to "be elegible" because it was "free" as opposed to them having to pay for their own private plan, thus effectively making la tarjetita de salud into "Medicare for all". All of what I previously mentioned is a big part of the reason why Puerto Rico is bankrupt, and that's not even mentioning other social programs for "special groups" there, but once you give someone something "free" you can never take it away no matter how bad it is for the economy, yet since la tarjetita de salud became unpayable using the local money/taxes, they have kept it running thanks to federal funds taken from the nation's income tax (puertoricans/US citizens residing in the island don't pay federal income tax), so the US tax payer has in recent years been subsidizing a welfare program for people that don't contribute to the nation's federal income tax just so they can get a subpar service they can't maintain at a local level and is a big part of the reason why the island is bankrupt and will likely never be able to pay back it's debt since most young people are fleeing the island and moving to states like Florida. But you Jimmy, want to bring this "amazing program" into the mainland... Good luck.

  20. for those of you who like jimmy, think the government can do a better job with running a power company and healthcare, I have a story for you. in Puerto Rico we have la Autoridad de Energia Electrica, this had been a 100% government monopoly since it started back in the early 1900's. since electricity is a necessity, the government knew they would see a steady flow of money comming from everyone who used it (minus those people who steal it in places like la perla for example). because of what I previously mentionned, every time a new governor came with a plan to make some big shit, if they didn't have the money from what they collected in local "state" taxes, they knew they could always resort to borrowing money from la AEE, make the big shit, and pay it back, but at some point they started running out of money to borrow from la AEE, so they started borrowing money from people's pensions. as the government borrowed more money from the monopoly known as la AEE, and people's pensions in order to make big shits, they defaulted the government and ruined the essential monopoly of la AEE to the point that for 60 years, the grid and power stations didn't get properly maintained, and power would go out with a little rain. then comes huricane cathegory 5 maria, and it further destroyed that which was being held by "glue and gum", and then people realized what the government had done to their essential AEE and begged for it to be sold to a private company. parto of la AEE was sold to LUMA, the portion related to the distribution of wlectricity (if I remember correctly), this was done about a year ago or so, and people expect to have a fully functionning power company with the quickness, forgetting all the damage that was done to it for about 60 years, and because 60 years of damage haven't been fixed in about a 1 year time span, people are resorting to be independent (good for them), and are installing solar pannels on their houses, or they have a small power generator. now for the health care portion of the story. in mid 1990's when hillary clinton was trying to pass a single payer healthcare system and failed, the local governor pedro rosello made it happen in puerto rico. the governor created la tarjetita de salud, and this tarjetita was only supposed to be given to those with low income, but you know that when people know they can get something for "free" they will do everything in their power to get it, so a lot of people that where supposed to be unelegible for it, got it. having such a large ammount of people use a "government" funded healthcare service, made it so that the government had to put controls to slow down the money spending, and so now if you had a medical condition that required a specialist, first you had to go see a primary care doctor, and then he would decide if you would in fact go see a specialist, and if you did, you would likely wait months in order to get to see your specialist. the government still ran out of money to provide la tarjetita, so the local government had to beg the federal government to send federal income taxpayer money to pay for la tarjetita that is used by residents of puerto rico, and since puerto rico is not a state, the people that reside in puerto rico don't pay federal income tax, so the nation's federal income taxpayers are paying to fund a broke tarjetita for people who do not pay federal income tax. the moral of the story is, government sucks at mannaging things whether they are essential or not, and takers will take whether they give back or not, and thus things (governments) go broke. don't be a socialist.
