has any of the up votes thought about this: medicare is an ideal option to the elderly paid by a portion (should you chose it) of wha you would normally receive from your social security and the reason why it's ideal, it's because besides the point of being optional, you are elderly and as he said, elderly people need more medical care than young people. having said that, for a "medicare" for all to actually work, you would have to make it mandatory so that the young and healthy can forcefully subsidize the elderly or the sick for they may not only not work but also may not have contributed enough to social security to be able to receive it and pay for it themselves. if you make it optional, what would stop the young from doing the netflix thing, and pay for it when they need it (when they are sick/"the new season of stranger things starts") and drop it when they no longer need it? also, if I don't need something, how can you force me to pay for something I don't need or want specially when I as the individual that I am, by not choosing to pay for it, am not affecting anyone else in the process, and if you do think so, then you'd know what I said earlier is true, you are forcing me to subsidize others, and much like I don't feel like paying for your so important to modern life utilities, I don't feel like subsidizing your life in general, much like you wouldn't want to subsidize mine, let us subsidize only those we want to subsidize (our loved ones).
