  1.  @opinionsvary  My parents didn't allow me to eat sugar growing up and I was sent to the state hospital at age 15. Certainly too much sugar causes many physical health problems but it doesn't cause major mental problems. Believe me I would give up sugar right now if I could stop taking my psychiatric medication.

  2.  @dannelson8556  The psychiatrist never said she hurt anyone. Back then they locked you up even if you weren't a danger to yourself or others.

  3.  Hughes SignCo  In the mental hospitals I was in they woke us up at least once an hour. Not on purpose but doing '"checks" on us.

  4.  Hughes SignCo  In my state they have a number posted on the wall of the mental hospital that you can call to report abuse. I have been hospitalized numerous times and have called it twice. They didn't return my call either time. Once was for physical abuse and they still didn't return my call. My case manager was very angry and we had a meeting with the head nurse and the director of the hospital. Still nothing happened. It was a few years before that staff member stopped working there. I don't know if he quit voluntarily or was finally fired.

  5. You have to have hypomania or mania or both to be diagnosed with bipolar.

  13.  @tommywalker3942  Robin Williams had the same illness as this woman. Bipolar is the new name for manic depression.

  14.  @amberd.8027  It depends on the person. I remember most of what I do when I am sick. I have forgotten only a few things. I wasn't violent.
