The real life Lord of the Flies actually ended well. 6 boys who wrecked on a Pacific Island near Tonga actually helped each other survive for more than a year. They were also different races. This shows that such situations can actually end well (especially when they don't have researchers antagonizing them).

@Cheepchipsable Yeah, Lord of the Flies is fiction. Just interesting that the closest real life example ended so differently. I do think that it could have gone more like the book depending on the personalities of the people involved and various other factors (like you mentioned, group size). I am glad I never went to a British boarding school.

@inklingofadream I have no idea what race relations were like that long ago on the Pacific Island that they were from. Edit: I also have no idea what other ways they were similar or diverse as the article I read didn't go into it. I just mentioned race because some people don't think different races can get along. This is one good example that says that they can.

A closer real life Lord of the Flies happened near Tonga in the 1960's. 6 boys wreaked on an empty island and were stuck there for over a year. They were different races. You might be surprised by what happened.

@charlespancamo9771 Yes, 6 is different. But this is the closest real life event. Lord of the Flies is fiction.

@mynameisworld It is not good that they stole a boat. But it is good that they cooperated to survive.

@mountainmama7589 They weren't allowed to.

@KraccerJakk I never heard of a language barrier. They were attending boarding school together before they got stranded.
