The fact that a food was rare or more expensive made it appealing to the rich. Edit: Which changes over time.

@magnetospin He said they were called foreign beans. Past tense. But it is confusing because you don't know if that is still used.

@GregConquest The health food store when I was a kid had a machine that ground up peanuts. It did not add sweetener or anything else. This meant the oil kept separating from the rest. Once you stirred it up it was pretty good. I like it better than regular USA peanut butter which tastes too sweet and is too smooth and sticky for me. I guess it is just what you are used to eating.

@EB-bl6cc Interesting that mangos and poison ivy are related! I didn't know that cashews are also related.
6
@pyellard3013 Some people from India don't believe that chilli is from the Americas.
5
@Norm475 Lots of misinformation in school but not as much as on the internet. Edit: I am talking about the internet in general (not this particular video).
5
@JS-jh4cy I think a paw paw is a relative of the mango that grows in North America. For some reason we don't eat them much in the USA. I want to try one! Edit: I don't know if it is actually related to the mango or not.
5
@AdmiralBison Seems to be true. The Emperor's New Food.
4
@LV-ni3qs Well, they don't speak an Indo-European language in Finland right?
4
@pyellard3013 I don't know. I suspect people probably ate a lot of spices in India even before because a lot of them grow there.
3
@pyellard3013 Obviously people in India did not have chilies (before Columbus) but they have many other kinds of spices.
3
@nielgregory108 This video said that peanuts were in Mexico before Columbus. Mexico is in North America.
3
That drink sounds delicious!
3
@mjmulenga3 I read two places that they were but when I type in "relatives of the paw paw" mango does not come up. So you are probably right.
3
@Elhastezy888 I have picked prickly pear fruits which do result in "raw paws" if you don't wear gloves... Never picked a paw paw though.🤣
3
Except there is evidence of peanuts in South America (and North America) before the Spanish got there.
2
@jrsygrl72 You have to stir the real peanut butter well with a butter knife each time you use it.
2
@jrsygrl72 I have not seen it made fresh in years either. It looked gross but tasted good.
2
@pixilatedsarin2408 Guess I will have to get my magnifying glass out. Can't have Big Ice Cream pull one over on me!
2
Unlikely.
2
@Elhastezy888 I definitely would like to try a paw paw but they don't grow in the desert where I live.
2
@gozerthegozarian9500 We ate pure peanut butter from the health food store. You threw the peanuts into a machine that grinds them. You do have to stir the oil back in. If you stir the oil in and mix it well it tastes good. Regular American peanut butter tastes kind of gross to me because I am used to the other kind.

@mogusmonroe9431 Many populations are commonly lactose intolerant. Most European and South Asian (Indian) people are not lactose intolerant. Many East Asian and West African are lactose intolerant. Usually if your ancestors had cattle for a long time you will be able to tolerate milk. There are varying levels of tolerance as well. Also cheese and yogurt have much less lactose than milk so more people can tolerate eating them.
1
I like them but my boyfriend is mildly allergic.
1
The world's oldest popcorn was found in Chile!
1
I looked it up. First evidence of popcorn was Peru 9000 years ago.
1
@oirampeceda2409 They may never know the exact first place.
1
Good question. Though apparently being around peanuts as a baby makes people less likely to get peanut allergies. But when a population was first introduced that wouldn't have been possible.

@bostonrailfan2427 The Caribbean is part of North America.
1
@bostonrailfan2427 With the exception of Oceania most islands are considered part of the continent they are near even if they are on a separate tectonic plate.
1
@bostonrailfan2427 North America includes Central America. The bigger Islands are closer to Florida, Mexico and Central America. It is true that some islands are closer to South America.
1
Slightly better.
1
Where are you from?
1
Looks like strawberries were in northern Africa on one of the maps shown in this video.
1
We bought peanut butter at a health food store when I was a kid. We threw peanuts into a machine that ground them. I just stirred the peanut butter up with a butter knife every time I used it. It tastes good freshly ground.
1
Probably Spain brought the nuts and the name.
1
@stefthorman8548 I am not talking about bell peppers. I am talking about chilli peppers.
1
Common use versus biological category.
1
@nicolascavadini3570 I read that Haiti is paying France reparations from taking slaveowners land from them in the Haitian revolution. If true, don't you think France should stop this unfair payment?
1
@wertyuiopasd6281 What is the hexagon?
1
@nicolascavadini3570 Oh certainly the "anglosphere" has plenty of cleaning up to do as well. But this is a video about France.
1
I was wondering about that.
1
@fech They eat them boiled in the mountains of Georgia (USA).
1
A wild strawberry never hurt me. I don't know of any poisonous berry that looks similar. At least not in my area.
1
How did you find out?
1
@dbmail545 Yeah, they found if babies aren't exposed to peanuts they are more likely to develope peanut allergies.
1
Just don't eat unripe pineapple! Ow.
1
In New Mexico in the Sandia Mountains strawberries look very tiny and rounded.
1
@kellieeverts8462 Cool!
1
