Why do you suppose the Russians did not just ask these former "Allied" now independent territories in the spirit of Mutual Security goals for their assistance in plugging these gaps which seems to me a much better option than intermittently threatening all of your neighbors and estranging all of your potential shared security partners, or are the Russians just so bad at diplomacy that they chose the worst option available as an alternative to diplomacy?

  2. 5:06 this is the problem with conscripted military's they're just not that into it and would likely rather be doing a couple million other things rather then having to fight for an unappreciative oligarch / tyrant
