  9. The intentional distribution of blankets laden with small pox seems to be a myth that was fabricated by a University of Colorado professor. There isn't much supporting this hypothesis. Outside of that, though, there wasn't an incredibly significant amount of killing [relatively], considering disease killed 90% of the Natives. The Native American population in North America in 1500 was about 2 million, and the decline to 400,000 in 1860 represents a 0.22% decline per year. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t look much like a traditional genocide—or if it was, it would be the slowest genocide in history. What's more, we don’t know how many Native Americans managed to intermarry with Europeans. If so few as 0.22% married a European, which would be 1 in 454, that would, in theory, account for the entire Native American decline assuming the Native Americans were at replacement otherwise. > "Europeans have a long history of killing, colonizing and subjugating most societies they come across." Of course! This was basically all of human history everywhere. Though, the Europeans were better at it I suppose — and, perhaps more importantly, better at travelling. > "Bottom line, planting your flag on inhabited lands and killing everyone around doesn't make it yours in my eyes." Well, it may not be the case in your eyes, but it is the case in reality. Additionally, by using this logic, 99% of current countries would not be said groups land in your eyes. In fact, why not have humans simply revert back to where our species began? > "Keep in mind who instituted one of the most brutal forms of slavery in the last 2 centuries." Who? Africans and Arabs previously and today? Also, why the cut off at 2 centuries? American slavery was actually, comparatively, a much better alternative to remaining an African slave or an Arab slave (hey, where are the posterity of all the black slaves in the Middle East?). They should've just shipped all of the slave immediately back to Africa, however. Also keep in mind who ended slavery globally, even at their own expense and despite much dismay from other (e.g. African) populations. > "Fast forward to the wealthiest nation currently with the highest per capita incarceration and police shootings all while calling this the land of the free." Non sequitur. It is not the land of the free... of consequence. If only we had more of a law abiding demographic. Also, the vast majority of police shootings are just, though I think there are certainly some situations that could be better deescalated by using other uses of force. > "I am perfectly ok with applying my current day morals on those times" Applying modern sensibilities to historical acts is as idiotic as it is misguided.
