I thought so as well. It's as if she have made a habit of not expressing herself as other than withdrawn and/or indifferent because anything else, be it a positive or negative expression, it would draw a negative reaction from a familymember she could not escape in her early years (mother). Her having children at such early years could have been a subconscious thought of getting away by having her own family.
