I think the increased attention and "praise" she recieve is for trying to having her around to look after him, if I don't misremember she was not happy when he ran for president from the beginning. But he maybe start to become exhausting to the supporters he has around him so they try and encourage her to get closer?

Isn't the caretaker the one who need assistance? If she need to support him physically isn't she a caregiver? (English is not my maternal language). He probably need CPAP machine and hearing aid but refuse of vanity. That poor hearing has been noticed a couple of times before. Notable the time when he was asked about Alligator Alcatraz and rambled on about that he like it in Florida and how nice it is.
