The scary thing is that this documentary was made a while ago and I believe that it's more common to see people his size these days. He is still able to walk even if strained.

Nikki's parents and uncle would be so happy that things they enjoyed goes to someone who wants it.

@zubin081 Though joking as much about one's flow is often to attempt to suffocate sorrow. Esp if he was a wrestler in his youth he was likely not enjoying having a physical capacity as 70+ years when he's actually in his 40s. Pathetic comes from the greek word for suffering, "pathos". He is not really enjoying his food when he eat alone, wanting to give the impression that he orders for like an AW with 5-10 people when he calls for a couple of pizzas, cheezeburgers etc.

Lol, it's not exactly like that getting rid of little dog figurine and the antique razor in that lovely box does much for creating needed space. They are sellers on ebay who sells peoples clothes, shoes, bags and such on comission. I'm certain that the lady have clothes gathered for over a decade which doesn't fit yet still could give a couple of quids per item. It looks like fairly well taken care of and could be of interest for those into vintage clothing even if it not brands from the most posh fashion brands. The razor can be a beautiful decoration in a bathroom. And getting rid of things not worn for six months as the narrator states is rather useless rule of thumb. You'd throw away all summerclothes in february and vice versa and then have to shop new just to add to a lot of landfill...or do they presume people buy only trendy clothing in poor quality that last only one season?
14
But they should wear protecting masks when startingto move around the dust with mousepee!
13
Oh, I'm kind of getting a bit stressed by thinking of the potential mold growth when they overfill their houses with things so ventilation and aircircualtion don't work as it should 😱
13
@I I Yeah, both look like middleage trying to look younger. He has a pony tail and she purple hair.
12
True, muscles will support increased metabolism but you usually can't excercise away a massive excess weight.
11
Lol, nettles is a weed. A lot of people with gardens have plenty of it around their gardencompost, and it grows at places in the wild. Surely nothing "exotic".
10
@ccz5674 You can't expect the partner to be a therapist. Living with people with mentally insufficient people can probably cause mental problems for their "near and dear".
8
@user-xm1od9nb1m Yes but art and some things of more sentimental value, some souvenirs from trips etc can be "useful" in creating the atmosphere you'd want in a home (aslong as it's not so much that it become invisible).
8
She blames her kids for her physical and mental state... 😛
8
And not relating to food as a way of emotional outlet, plenty seem to have an emotionally drive of punishing themselves or rewarding with things they eat.
7
On the other hand, they could have tried to get things tidied up hundreds of times but she started to faff about with the stuff instead of really sorting it and not getting anywhere?
7
The other day I finally went to a charityshop with some things after my parents but which isn't my cup of tea. I do know though that my parents would prefer it go to someone who like them instead of filling it in boxes in the guesthouse.
7
@Gunngirl Physical health as well. They can have respitory issues, roaches poo, dust, mold.
7
I was thinking the same, a lot of female marathonrunners rub sportslick on their thighs to avoid bleeding chafing.
7
I'm almost thinking when it's that bad they should perhaps be in somesort of assisted housing. Yeah, I know that people with severe mental illness should have their freedom but isolating themselves behind junk is not quality freedom is it? Whereas if she lived in assisted housing with peoplearound to check up regularly and pushing herbefor it all became overwhelming she could have more social life and other activities, going to swim a fewtimesaweek or whatever she might really enjoy?
6
@international.somewhere Yeh, she sometimes talked and reasoned like a child. Animals and things don't betray or lie or hurt emotionally but also not having expectations that can be a force of positive personal development.
6
Though I was impressed when Stacy caught up with them and apologized for her antics. Similar when she backed away from the fish and chips in the pub afterwards. Usually I'd think that most can be approved even if not that often, but perhaps it's necessary with a full stop of the unhealthy foods to stop the craving of it. After all, there so much healthy food that is sound nutritious yet still delicious.
6
I'm sort of perplexed that more than a few in these series store up stuff from deceased familymembers. You typically have a check of it when clearing out their houses so it's not difficult take photos and some sentimental items and then it's easiest to get rid of it there and then. My parents would be grumpy if I kept things just for storage instead of shipping it to some of these second hand stores who often but up whole estates so it could be used by somone needing it or wanting it.
6
@samanthaabreu782 Though the reason for changes are the prestate, if not first stage, to hoarding. They want the cange because the stuff is pushing them out while people in Hoarders often percieve that the house as is is what they want. The strive for change is surely that it's becoming difficult to live in their homes, a potential fire hazard with mountains of clothes almost blocking doorways, isn't it? There's a channel where one woman from Finland cleans out homes that are really dirty and messy (Aurikatariina) . The people aren't in the show but the background in those cases have often other mental illness compared to horders or other who purposefully save different stuff. Neither with the delusion of seeing all junk as useful or overestimating the worth of what they have.

@beckyshell4649 No, not all EU countries went for the euro. The currency was still pounds in GB.
5
Maybe they've tried a number of times. She's now accepting help to be able to have chemo which lowers the immunedefence. Before that she was perhaps not motivated at all, maybe she even got angry if someone tried to convince her to do away with things.
5
Yeah, such hoards tend to attract mice that frequently chews away at electrical wires and start fires.
5
She reminds me of my grandma, stern but kindhearted.
5
This is so wholesome, that the ambition is to try and get away from a mindset with emotional eating, this idea of having a "treat", a "reward" that contains basically nothing that is good for your body. Fast sugars can be ok if going on longer sessions of cardio
5
I felt like sneezing just by seeing that.
5
Indeed. And especially for kids this is devastating since the frontal cortex is not fully developed until approximately the age of 25. And this is the area that "rules" the executive abilities involving the ability to postpone rewards and control impulse. And when she said in the beginning that she snacks when the kids don't see, it's like the alcoholic hiding wine bottles in the cleaning cupboard.

Especially walking downwards can put a strain on the knees of even normalweigth people, and I think Vince was the heaviest of them. I hope he continued though by motivation of the progress he made while he was tagging along.
4
Or an arrogant and manipulative woman who has got away all her adult life with acting like a kid, which may initially have been encouraged if she is petite size.
4
Indeed if I would walk into a salon like that... I'd get an itch and wonder if I got some animals in the hair.
4
@fabienneclavier5984 Yes, I recall seeing an episode of the amercan version of "Hoarders", in one hose where the "junk clearance" team discovered that the walls had started to give in.
4
Hope they checked that the fragrances aren't the kind that are toxic to animals. Cleaning the fish- and turtletanks should be a priority.
4
I thought he looked familiar.
4
@movedchannels1654 Try bake it in the owen with a bechamel that you put grated cheese in and a tiny little bit of nutmeg.
4
The recordplayer and cost of rewire... people who are into these kind of vintage electronics and mechanics are often fairly skilled and able to fix these themselves.
4
Yeah there were thick layers of dust at the clothes when she couldn't keep the closet closed and on the chest in the bedroom, almost started sneezing by just watching
4
I saw an episode where an autistic teenage boy had got to eat only Yorkshirepudding. This was NOT enabled by his parents, but rather they allowed him because otherwise he really did not eat at all. He had learned from an early age to make them himself when the parents hade tried to refuse him for purpose of having him eat other food but was now old enough to grasp the importance of having more of nutrition. Don't know if something like such is going on with Michael if he is so tied to certain taste and/or texture.
4
@af98 AgreeSaying that they love them no matter what the child looks like is shallow and one dimensional. Loving the child would normally include a desire of providing for the child tobe able to have the relatively good ground to having a good chance to a life with a variety of opportunities.
4
@madhatter909 I know, just as Denmark and Sweden kept their kroner
3
It was a very wise decision. When they're struggling financially and having the worry of feeding them and vet costs. They could have wonderful "adoptive" families with children loving them and playing with them.
3
Wasn't Richard also in an episode made for years ago where they got him to realise thathe wouldn't be cataloging his newspapers? He had then two houses filled?
3
@Miamia_01 Though, has she always done that, or did she start that now recently when she has become ill?
3
@BeeBee-dd2rr And so-called functional clothes for excercise that shouldnt be washed in higher temperatures than +40 C° is also good to prewash with vineager to prevent them to start to smell.
3
@alias201 Or her toenails is not maintained and being too long?
3
Or maybe that is supportive, sort of forcing her to deal with it, as compared to keep it un sed in storage that cost money you could do something worthwhile for yourself and family? I don't think that many of the deceased would be offended if they let the stuff go to someone who needsit or want it instead?
3
@granmabern5283 And you risk having to do it again around 18 - 20 when the majority get their oxelteeth.
3
And in the core of it is the strive to keep wealth with in the family despite the effort to explain it with "trust" and "respect" within families.
3
I don't know. Not possible to stick to in whole for good but it may be a kickstart that gives quite fast initial visible result to spur motivation? A lot of those in the show seem to eat food lacking any fibers whatsoever, all this vegetables and fruit must set their stomachs working.
