  1. Hello Steven. Thank you for the lesson. While I do have Scottish ethnicity, my paternal name Cathcart, may have it's roots in Breton. In 1178 a Rainald de kethcert, changed over time to Cathcart, witnessed charter along with Walter Fitz-Allan giving land to the Abbey in Paisley. Our branch of the Cathcart tree moved to Clogmills in county Antrim in the 1700's. My great great grand father followed his two older brothers here to South Carolina in the US in1813. My brother had DNA test done when they first started. The result was 100% Northwestern European. Now what does this have to with Viking origin ? I have Dupuytren's Contracture in each hand. My brother's do. My father did as did his father. Knowing your family's history can be very beneficial. Best Wishes
