I might add another nasty genetic disease that has its history in Northern Europe and the British Isles. It is Cystic Fibrosis. Studies indicate as far back as 3000 years people carried the gene. One thought is they may have been exposed to heavy metals for long periods of time. I am not a doctor, but I am familliar with the disease as my son has it. Both parents have to carry the gene. Both of our ancestry is Scottish, English with a little Irish and Dutch. There were no test when we were married. The good news is treatment and drugs have come a long way. My son wasn't thought to live past eighteen. He is healthy and will be 42 in November. He is married with two children. Ani't Medical Research Grand. By the way, we live in South Carolina in the USA.
