They made zero effort to handle their bad room acoustics by using anything other than a built-in microphone on their recording device. Why isn’t the producer or director teaching them how? Since the start of the pandemic and remote interviewing (W)GBH and most other organizations are also the victims of the epidemic of bad location sound. It’s easy. Use the earphones that came with a cellphone. They have a microphone on the cord (or, if wireless, part of the earphones). Use them with your tablet, laptop, or desktop computers. The sound will be far superior to the built-in microphone on those devices. It also helps to record in a room that is not acoustically live.
