  2. The Egyptian campaign was terrible mistake. They should have focused on the Levant, and maybe North Africa around Morocco and Tunisia.

  3. @ 1. A safe coastline from Arab navy raiders. 2. Less possibility of European mainland. 3. Possible diversion of Muslim forces, and volunteers giving the Christen Kingdoms in the Levant breathing space. 4. Being closer to Europe has advantages of supplies and man power.
