  14. A real regular full time hardtop actually would benefit the Miata's body structure greatly with more stiffness and quieter quality. Also it's cheaper to manufacture than the softtop and the new complicated removable Targa mechanical hard top. Mazda CEO thought all parts of the world were mostly sunny, dry, and warm. The truth is lots of folks hates bird dropping inside the interior & the driver too, exposure to dirts, and cold wet weathers. Not to mention you have to struggle with the softtop in an urgent and the complexities problems with the mechanical hardtop. Put another 70- 170 HP would definitely put it an eye popping rank right up with the best out of the box factory sport car territory. Right now some low class punks in a entry level Hyundai or Honda Civic can eat that thing for lunch. Not to mention those old 10 years old Honda Civics and 3 rd handled timid Corollas are a threat to the brand new MX5 at every sets of traffic lights.

How can you keep saying it get unlimited funding and development and research ? There's no comparison. You should check out the history the piston engine and compare that to the rotary before making your statement. Your don't even know how much efforts got the piston engines before it reach to today's refinement. All you do is enjoying the fruits of the long and hard work of others and brags a loud statement on the net. If you were born at the early days of the piston engines you won't even think it will reached to the stage of refinements we all appreciated so much today. You would likely to be the first one to ditch the piston engine out.

  32. Regions heavy use of road salt and sand for road are really bad on regular steel brake lines. Not to mention it is also bad for those cheap galvanized and aluminized exhaust system replacement. SS is the right one to use. Next is to have the entire car sheet metal fabrication with SS. That really takes cares the environment in long term globally.

  33. In Canada a lot of people don't know how to pass. They speeds up just enough on left , then do a quick change lane back and cut in front of me while I am driving at constant speed even there's no cars in front of them and plentiful of free road ahead of them. I had to apply brakes to slow down my car to avoid hitting them at the rear. They should learn more about passing by reading the driver manual.

  36. Sounds like you have an automatic transmission. Any car regardless of engine and transmission types are prone to higher rate of wear and tear at high rpm. But with clean oil and filter change more often will reduce wear and stress better when it often sees high rpm. Just remember a person often revs their engines at 6000 rpm or more will definitely going to wear lot more than the other guy at only 2500 - 4000 rpm. going to the same route. Most automatic transmission cars when floors on D mode momentarily doesn't always mean it reach to max rpm. Therefore read your tech gauge.

  38. A lot of folks thought the rotary engine were Japan origin But it is actually invented by Dr. Felix H. Wankel in 1957, a Porsche engineer. Its purpose was to produce high horse power in a small compact size and lighter weight with fewer moving parts than a typical piston engine. With compact size it can fit in under low hood design or spaces where a typical piston engine with similar horse power output may encounter problem. While the piston engines have over 100 years of refinements and development by many auto and engine manufacturers. The Wankel engine's history for development and refinements were very limited and relatively short. Mazda is probably the major company trying to refine the rotary. That's the short comming of the rotary engine. It needs more attention and lots of fundings from other manufacturers and more time to get the refinements of the piston engines of todays. With the advancement of technologies and refinements going into the piston engine most companies just not interested in the rotary at all. It just might get buried away until there's a new interest someday in the unknown future.

During the development program in the 70's most of the auto manufacturers encountered heating problems, causing engine seal leakage, unacceptable oil consumption problems, poor gas milage and anti smog emission problems. Especially in the mid 70's US auto manufacturers encountered the new stricter EPA guidelines for smogs and it also facing an oil shortage because of the Vietnam War and the powerful OPIC in 70's trying to control world oil production by limiting the world oil market. Suddenly the manufacturers also encounter more new US safety guidelines for all automobile. They must pass a collision survival test and also must meet the new low impact bumper guideline for the National Automobile Insurance Institute in order to sell their cars to the general public in America. The 70's were very turbulent year for the Big 4 . Especially the auto industry were having problems to get new hi tech materials to meet the requirements of the new government guidelines. They were so stressed out that they have to cut back on other unnecessary expensive programs . The rotary engine were one of the few projects been chopped.

  43. Manoo42 I am not a fan for rotary engine. But the piston engine popularity been around for use way longer than the rotary. The earliest piston engines sold to the public were not that reliable, noisy, can't even call smooth running, and not clean emissions either folks. Just because you are enjoying the refinements of the piston engines through over 100 years of refinements and been in mass production to the public around the world. It doesn't mean the piston engines don't have flaws during its early years. Because of the popularity of the piston engines, it got much, much more attention from all engine builders and much more engineering reseach around the world than the rotary. Any types of engine that can get this type of attention and lengthy time of development would definitely benefits over others. Now you can compare that to the rotary engine history . Perhaps you should view the situation careful before you call someone a bad name on the net and shows off. Because you don't understand a good thing needs time and love to nuture. You are definitely the easy come and easy go type of person. If you know what I meant.

It does have its unique features. I do know the bad short comming of this engine. The problems and short life span of this engine under the current design. But I do believe future generations of engineers and advancements will eventually solve these problems. Perhaps not this generation. Don't forget that generations back human are not suppose to be able to be airborne. That's why science and technology are keep evolving. It never stops. Only time will tell.   56. In general softer suspension are better suitable for road cars which constant meets unexpected and uneven road surfaces. Race cars on race track which constantly drive at very high speed on controled flat surfaces should use hard suspension setup. Because of aerodynamic lifts and down forces effects the racer so you must use hard suspension setup to maintain the height. Some people still don't have any clue due to the amount of softness and hardness to use for customize their own vehicle. Although not all the time but most of the time your vehicle manufacturer's engineers has calculated the best compomise settings for your vehicle's main use purpose. But randomly some owners may not agrees with his OEM setup. So if you need to customize it then you must figure out how much softer or harder than the OEM. Not surprisingly it will be trials and errors for your perfect setting. Unless you have the opportunity to full access to your manufacture's engineering faculty or luckly for you the after market supplying you an exact test mule as your vehicle. If you still don't understand why and how, then stick with OEM can't go wrong. After all you are betting with your wallet.😇

Because you are doing a high profile media video, it's hard for Michelin to refuse the warranty. Other people like me will or may get into the Blame Game. In my case they played me till I gave up.

You are too young to understand the it's the combination of high heat, fast movement of the engine parts that causes friction, and high volume of exhaust gas does that fine Italian tuneup. You use the calculator too much son.

  76. Having mentioned it before, again and again. You will need Italian tuneup. Now, after Engineering's analysis, it's to do the old famous Italian tuneup more frequently. Because in higher speeds, the hybrid systems don't kick in or not as often. Therefore your engine oil moisture is more likely to get evaporated by the continuous heat it produces. But change your oil at the OEM severe maintenance schedule for your assurance to long engine life. Just make sure you do yourself a favor and don't cross the fine lines of your local laws.

  78. But it didn't do any test on deterioration of the sidewalls. My expensive Premiere MXV4 Michelin have the worst case of sidewall dry rots and thousands of cracks in the 3rd year on ALL FOUR of my tires.

  93. A new regular 15" 2006 Toyota Camry OEM alloy rim cost $875.00 + tax each in Canada. Not including tires, balancing, alignment, labor and shop fees. Therefore your bill was pretty reasonable priced. Perhaps CHEAP.

  95. I hope Mazda CEO and your top talented managements sees this . Mazda you try to copy the big players but don't want to exceed your competitors best. Your company has substance, but you don't have a clue how to capitalize it. Always lacking in engine options, models, and always behind in leadership. Get rid of the lame RX8 or put a decent reliable Sky- Active gas V6 or V8 in it. Expand your Sky-Active gas engine technology in your RX8 and shock the big boys in the game. As for the rotary engines it's wasting your company $$$$$$$$$$$$, brain power, and manpower. Build an urban mini pickup while all the competitions has none. By using the 3's engines and keep the price down to earth for all Janes and Joes. Made that user & price friendly for folks of all ages and health conditions. Lower the heights of entry and the cargo loading areas. Build it simple not just the fully dressed pricey models. Late then add AWD. Don't follow F-150, Ram, GMC, or the Trundra or its smaller sibling TACOMA.(Too Big, too wide, too long, too bad boy attitude, too brute, too tall, too high entry & cargo lift height, use too much gas, too hard to wash & wax, too pricey for real work). Don't follow GM= Gross Management tries to build costly corporate butt hurt limited collectors vehicles regular folks don't buy it cause that giant to the course of bankruptcy. All their other models were poor quality and lame. Put a premium V6 in that Mazda 6 would bring more buyers plus a sport wagon too. Add a brand new full size MAZDA 8 sedan and sport wagon (not fat SUV please) with a V8. Add AWD option later if necessary. Put a simple light weight cheap to manufacture real full time hard top on that Miata MX5. It would beneficial for the Miata greatly for stiffening the body structure. Come on, there are many parts of the world couldn't get warm dry sunny days all the time. Not everyone likes bird droppings, dirts, and cold wet weathers. Put at least another 75 - 175 HP into the feeble Miata would help. That alone would put fears & envy eyes to the competitors in the sport car world. Right now even a low class bad boy with a used 10 years+ old Honda Civic or an ex family used 3rd handed Toyota Corolla would eat your Miata on every stoplight for lunch.. For the retail price you charge is not worth it. Stretch that already good Mazda 3 another 4-10 inches really helps the rear seating comfort and rear foot space areas. Then your 3 has matured to perfection to beat the competitions. Stay away the lame diesel engine business like VW. It's a waste of corporate 💰, reliable disgrace, and company effort. Stop just listen to your past loyal customers. They are too small for your company expansion plans. You need to build up your products and brand name to all buyers of all ages and income not just the wannabe premium brand segment. Too scare to step out of your comfort zones MAZDA ? Then stay small and keep shrinking in the global market. ZOOM, ZOOM OR DOOM !

  102. I have said it again and again, Mazda put a real simple one piece non removable hard top on that dam thing so the rest of us can enjoy it in miserable weather or at cooler climates. Not everyone wants a soft top or a removable targa top. The plus side were less chance of leaks and other problem, less maintenance, less wind noise, lighter overall body weight, stiffer body structure, and finally it is cheaper to build. It also means better performance on the road.
