  1. There is of course never a real justification for a war against another country, but the kind of "justification" Putin provides for Russia invading Ukrain is all-in-all not much worse then then justifications for the US to invade Iraq, Afghanistan and the toppling of Khadaffi. The problem of Ukrain is that it is a country where not only Ukrainains live but also many Russians, and that the eastern and southern part of Ukrain in fact was part of Russia was combined into Ukrain to form a sovereign state. When one argues that Russia can not undo that, one can also argue that neither Ukrain can undo that. But what the maidan revolution in fact did was undoing the history, and turn Ukrain into a country only for Urainians, undoing some of the rights of the Russian speaking people there. Similarly, if you would turn Belgium into a Great Flandern, thereby undoing the rights of the Wallonian people, that would cause similar problems. The people in Ukrain demanded more sovereignity and not immediately abandoning Ukrain and joining Russia, but these political demands were met wit violence, causing the conflict. If Ukrain had wanted to split Ukrain in an Ukrainian part and Russian part, and each going there way seperately if they can no longer live in the same country, a war could have prevented, but this did not happen, instead a conflict in eastern Ukrain happened, without there being a resolution to the conflict, the Minsk agreements did not bring a solution, so at that point war became inevitable.
