  1. Weather an area or a country or continent is overpopulated or underpopulated is entirely dependend on the available economic resources, and much less on the size of the area. Antarctica is OVERPOPULATED despite having no (permanent) residents, because we can not live there. Population density (people per square km) is something different then over or underpopulation. If an area is overpopulated, people tend to migrate from that area. If an area is underpopulated, people tend to migrate to that area. That has nothing to do with the population density of the area.
