Have you seen this Finish technology (Polar Energy), which proposes to store renewable energy (wind/solar) in an isolated basin of sand (pipes with heated air go through the sand) which can store energy for winter usage as a heating source. Another alternative for replacing natural gas is producing biogas from algae - algae farms can be built around windmills at sea. Other then biomass like wood, algae is a CO2 neutral way of producing energy.

  2. Russia is not desperate for a decline in european gas market, this has been anticipated by building LNG terminals in the arctic and a fleet of LNG carying vessels that can deliver LNG worldwide.

  3. It is not american dollar, and that is the primary reason US don't want europe to buy russian gas. The american economy and power rests on the international trade being made in US dollar currency, any country that tries to change that, becomes immediately a target of US geopolitics and will meet a regime change operation.... That is how the US stays a super power....
