I love the fact that his new owners chose to ADOPT from a shelter instead of going to a breeder, AND that they were willing to help a cat who desperately needs to lose weight for the sake of his health.

There are SO MANY breeders who are convinced that they know what they are doing when they actually do not. My vet found it so depressing dealing with these people and the serious problems they ignorantly breed into these innocent animals that he discontinued working with any breeders whatsoever. Until there are no strays or homeless animals and until the shelters are empty, there is simply no reason to patronize breeders who contribute to pet overpopulation and cause a lifetime of suffering to helpless animals. ADOPT DON'T SHOP.

Interesting comment; this dog is a havanese, aka "clown dog". (but it's not because of the hair in their ears)

As adorable as these puppies are, let's remember that all dogs are adorable as puppies and that stage doesn't last long. There are far too many dogs waiting in shelters for a home through no fault of their own. I am an "adopt don't shop" advocate and resent the fact breeders are adding to the per population just to enrich themselves. I would much rather see a rescue dog get a much deserved makeover to help them get the home they deserve. .

@Beeti1 Totally agree with you. ADOPT DON'T SHOP. Also, Vanessa said that there were no mats, so this grooming was completelty unnecessary and caused open mouth breathing which is a sign of severe distress with elevated heart rate. This had a bad effect on this cat's central nervous system. Very disappointed in Vanessa for doing this groom and posting it.

If people would stop patronizing breeders, animals would not come into this world with special needs like Sphinxes, Persians, pug nose dogs, Labradoodles and others who endure a lifetime of difficulties and suffering just because some breeder wanted to make extra $$$$$s. ADOPT DON'T SHOP. And I really wish Vanessa would exclude breeders from her new podcast. No one needs to breed animals until the last homeless animal is adopted.

Combing, brushing is all that is needed to help long-haired cats and often not even that if they are healthy enough to self groom. The only areas where they can't groom themselves is behind their ears and the back of their neck. I am so disappointed in Vanessa in this video. There is no reason to put this cat through this. He was clearly terrified while in the drying booth to the point of showing significant signs of physical distress. My vet is a feline practioner and he says that there is no reason to bath a healthy cat. They are known for being excellent self groomers and putting them through an ordeal like this is sheer cruelty and totally unnecessary.

@MaineCoonMama18 The fact remains that this was entirely unncessary. This cat never should have been put in a situation where the open mouth breathing even started. Stopping at that point does not make it OK. My vet has over 40 years exoerience as a feline practioner and strongly advises against professionally grooming cats or bathing them at all, Cats are known for being meticulous self-groomers unless they are disabled. This cat had no mats. This was not needed. It's only purpose was clicks for this channel.

Awesome to help with his vet expenses,. Wishing Zero all the best :)

Good for you to put her comfort first. This fellow turned out looking really cute and I hope he feels more comfortable with a shorter coat. It's so hard to see an animal in pain, especially when it's one we love as our own. Thankfully he also has owners who are trying to do everything they can for him. There is a brand called Adorable Beast that makes a supplement called Jump for Joynts that is very good for pets with arthritis. Pawdega USA sells it but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

@Seattle-ish Same. ADOPT DON'T SHOP.

@babyroxasman I agree. One of my neighbors is a backyard breeder; the guy is an alcoholic and a far cry from being a rocket scientist. He's bred all kinds; whatever is most profitable at the time and I shutter to think what inbred health problems those poor dogs will live with their entire lives. He sells them on FB. It's sad and disgusting. The clincher is that the local vet discounts his fees for this breeder but charges top rates to anyone wanting to get a stray spayed or neutered, IF he will even fit that animal into his schedule.

@NocasCC18 Thanks so much. Really glad you adopt :)

One of the huge negatives of dogs from breeders instead of adopting a mutt.
5
Please, please, please do not include breeders among the guests you bring on. There is no reason for anyone to breed animals for profit until the last homeless animal has a home. ADOPT DONT SHOP.
5
Thank you for telling everyone. He is an extraordinarily sweet dog and deserves the best :)

@pippadawg7037 She stopped only AFTER she traumatized him to the point of open mouth breath, which is a sign of elevated heart rate and extreme distess. It was all totally unnecessary

@barbarajoyce6424 Adding to the problem of pet overpopulation for ANY reason is unacceptable.

@Agniakachan I specifically said that my vet, who has over 40 years as a FELINE PRACTITIONER who has treated all types of cats does not approve of bathing cats UNLESS they are sick or disabled. Very few ever get to the point of being so ill that they stop grooming. I have had several long haired cats during my lifetime and even the two who eventually became ill were not matted because they did not move around much. My vet advised that the stress put on the cat by grooming them at that point would only add to their misery. To subject a cat to professional grooming throughout its healthy life because there is the unlikely possibility that it may, at some point be too ill or disabled to groom itself is simply not in the cat's best interest. Animals live in the moment. Their only concern is the here and now. They simply have no interest in planning for the future. There is no way they would understand the type of reasoning you are presenting or choose to go along with it. Leave the poor cats alone and let them do their own grooming.
4
@smr6141 My vet who has over 40 years as a FELINE PRACTIONER disagrees with you. Putting a cat in a situation that causes open mouth breathing IS cruel, regardless of whether she stopped or not. It is an involuntary sign of EXTREME distress with elevated heart. It never should have happened.
4
@lostinspace013 I totally agree. Cats are experts at taking care of themselves unless they are sick or disabled. This was unnecessary trauma for this sweet cat.

PLEASE do NOT promote breeders in your podcast. MANY of us subscribe to the ADOPT DON'T SHOP philosophy.
3
@elizabetharnold5849 The fact that grooming a cat on a video does not mean that it is necessary or correct. It's done to attract viewers, regardless of whether it is right or wrong.

Regarding the podcast, I really hope Vanessa decides NOT to interview breeders unless it's to tell them to stop breeding. Other topics like nutrition and training are great, but NO breeding. Adopt don't shop.
2
@Astrohhh Well it is not you who was terrified to the point of if dangerously elevating your heart rate. It was a vulnerable animal who deserves more than just to be used for peoples' egos and entertainment.
2
@CherylSimser My vet, with over 40 years experience as a FELINE PRACTITIONER who has treated every tyoe of cat and cared for all of my long-haired cats is the one who educated me on this and he does not agree with you. That cat never should have been put in a situation that caused open mouith breathing. The fact that she quit does not make it OK. The cat was needlessly traumatized to the point of an involuntary sign of EXTREME distress. My own long haired cats did groom themselves and the only thing I ever had to help them with was brushing behind their ears wear they cannot self-groom. Regardless, Vanessa said this cat had no mats, so there was simply no need for this.

Breeders PLEASE STOP. It is heartbreaking to see these poor cats who struggle to breath and have such huge high-upkeep coats to contend with. I feel so sorry for this cat and others like it.

Thank you for sharing your expert opinion :) This is a very beautiful dog.

Super sweet dog and so cute too :)

@Fawnkit Yes, my vet is amazing. He has over 40 years experience as a FELINE PRACTICTIONER. His schedule is full even though he has never advertisied and people travel long distances to bring their cats to him. He is the best vet I have ever had for my cats, by far. How do I know he does not approve of grooming cats? It is pretty simple: he said so.

My sister's Jack Russell developed canine dementia and he acted like this poor dog. It was impossible to calm him down if he got stressed, They just get so terrified of things that would not have bothered them in their younger years. Another symptom is walking in circle until they just fall over. 16 years is really old for a dog and it starts to become a quality of life issue at some point. There are no solutions or good answers in some situations and this may be one of those. It's just good you are understanding and compassionate.

Who would name a cat or any animal "Lucifer"? That is just plain cruel, ESPECIALLY for a cat who is such an angel. I feel so sorry for him being saddled with that name.
1
@sallys2423 I know. I have only ever had cats that showed up on my door step. Some were friendly some weren't (in the beginning) but they have all been treasures. Unfortunately there are people who want breeds in cats, just like some dog owners. Maine Coons, Sphynxes, Ragdolls, Siamese, Savannahs, Bengals, Persians, etc sell for a lot and many have inbred health problems. The best veterinarian I have ever had for my cats is retired now but he was exclusively a feline practitioner and he turned away breeders and people who show cats because he didn't want any part of that culture or the health problems that come with pure bred animals and adding to the overpopulation problem. For me, it will always be ADOPT DON'T SHOP.

@PhthaloJohnson My vet with over 40 years experience as a feline practitioner disagrees with you.

@fireice2037 Well, my vet with over 40 years experience as a FELINE PRACTITIONER who treats every kind of cat disagrees with you. Open mouth breathing is a sign of EXTREME distress including elevated heart rate. Vanessa said he came in with no mats. I have owned several long haired cats and none of them required anything more than brushing, at the most and that was mostly behind their ears where they cannot groom themselves.

Super sweet dog and his coat looks beautiful :)

At the end: Very happy owner and very happy dog.

Gorgeous dog

Vanessa, PLEASE do NOT promote breeding in your podcast. Nutrition and training are great topics, but breeding is NOT.

What a sweet dog! And he is so cute besides !

Far too many animals are victims of stereotypes perpetuated by ignorant people or people who have any agenda. The one thing all dogs want is love and they respond to kindness and understanding.
1
Lovely sweet Sphinx kitten but I wish the video title did not make reference to rotisserie anything because there are a lot of sick minds out there and none of us need to be giving them inspiration about horrible things to do to animals. She is freezing, PLEASE wrap her in a heated towel.
