  1. Exactly. All these tragedies were preventable with proper crew levels, inspection and maintenance of equipment. The only reason to not be diligent in those areas is corporate greed. And the decision that a corporation is a "person" shows how badly our third branch of government has failed us.

  2. Exactly. Just like libertarians want to replace Medicare with private insurance so they can "save money"; absurd! They never stop to consider that people shop at places like Costco in an attempt to cut out the "middleman to "save money" without seeing that when it comes to health insurance, Medicare is the way to cut out the middleman to "save money". Most people understand that Medicare cuts out the middleman and is the most cost-efficient way to be insured. But libertarians would rather pay a higher amount for insurance and believe they are saving money just because the government is not involved. When it comes to libertarians, they have no analytical thinking whatsoever.. Our schools really need to focus on developing critical thinking skills instead of dumbing down the voters.

  3.  @WeToddEd-r3g  Good point. If libertarians focused their criticism on excessive bureaucracy instead of "regulation" it would make sense but they want to throw the baby out with the bathwater and that is where they don't make sense. Efficiency should always be the goal.

  5. When is the last time that ship was inspected to see if the engine was receiving regular maintenance? It should have had an auxiliary power source. Looking at the size of that ship and the weight involved, it seems like any bridge would have been badly damaged by a collision of that magnitude.
