This does NOT meet the definition of euthanasia which is to humanely end a life in order to alleviate suffering when there is no other option, Who is to say what might have happened to provoke the attack. Every hunter who ventures into the natural habitat of wild animals is taking a risk and should be prepared with chemical repellants. Unfortunate for these hunters but also unfortunate for this beautiful animal who cannot tell its side of the story.

Yes it is a tragedy these hunters did not think to bring chemical repellants with them when they decided to knowingly venture into the animals' habitat. It could have saved them and the mountain lion.

Thank you for adding FACTS, the newscaster failed to research.
5
Exactly.

@KB-kp2oz It is NOT humane when there is no other reason to do it except for the convenience/preference of the party doing the killing. therefore this incident does not meet the definition of euthanasia.

@haroldbell213 Bears are even more dangerous to humans but chemical repellants immobilize them, These guys should have gone in prepared if they were determined to knowingly go into the habitat of wild animals.
4
@roccodiconza7367 they knowingly went into the habitat of wild animals. They could have armed themselves with chemical deterrents.
4
@huwhitecavebeast1972 They were only hunting for shed antlers, not armed.

@xlbeanboi2653 I did not say I was scared. I stay out of the habitat of wild animals out of common sense. There is no reason to invade their home. But for those who do insist on venturing into habitat, they should be prepared with chemical repellants that could prevent the kind of scenario that happened in this instance. What do you not understand about that?
3
Exactly. At least take chemical repellants along and be prepared if hunters make the choice to venture into the animal's home.

@tomsd8656 It works on bears and they are the most dangerous animals a human might encounter.
2
@tomsd8656 That's the whole point; no one knows what happened. Big cats typically avoid human engagement. So did they provoke it? Was there a reason the cat perceived them as a threat to itself or its cubs? There were two of them. It would only take one of them to use a chemical repellant while the other was being attacked. They should have thought about all this when they decided to go into a natural habitat. Animals live by instinct. Humans are supposed to be critical thinkers.

Exactly

@DOOMJESUS Stop SHOUTING. You have no idea what provoked this attack or what the mountain lions are subsisting on. It did not look like a starving animal by any means. These two people knowingly ventured into the habitat of wild animals without either of them arming himself with a chemical repellant, which could have prevented all of this. Animals are programmed to live by instinct; humans are suppose to use critical thinking.

@xlbeanboi2653 Wild animals live by instinct. Human beings are supposed to engage in critical thinking. Anyone who needs that difference pointed out is not an analytical thinker and is going to default to the same behavior as animals. No one has to stay out of the wilderness. However, any reasonable person is going to make sure they know if there have been sightings before they go into an area that could be habitat for wild predators. If there is any chance of encountering an animals that could attack, avoid the area or at least be armed with protection, It's not that hard to reason it out.
2
They may have also provoked it; we will never know because animals can never tell their side of the story.

I agree and I believe people should be more mindful of the number of children they bring into this world. We are spreading into areas that were once pristine wilderness for wildlife, It it humanity that is the cause of imbalance in the ecosystems. That said, animals live by instinct, whereas humans are supposed to use critical thinking. These two men should have armed themselves with chemical repellants when they chose to venture into the habitat of wild animals,

@DOOMJESUS From your all caps to the wording of your posts, you come across as immature and hyper-reactive. It only serves to discredit you.

@DOOMJESUS Thank you for proving my point :)

@tonyprice2256 The thing is, nothing is guaranteed to work every time but bear spray is as reliable as any other deterrent and it could have prevented this outcome if used properly. But we will never know because these two human beings failed to take any precautions in this regard. There were two hunters here so even if one was caught by surprise, the other could have had time to react, Also, we do not know that the cat was stalking them; it may have been provoked. These cats usually avoid human interaction unless they feel a direct threat to themselves or their cubs. With regard to which animals are the most dangerous to humans, a good friend with over 30 years experience training wild animals maintains that bears and apes over two years of age are far more dangerous than any of the wild big cats he has encountered. It may be a toss-up, but they should all be left along in their habitats. These two made some careless decisions that they paid a terrible price for. Unfortunately, the cat also paid.
