  96.  @Tony38533  yes, democrat governors did the shutdowns. "In April of 2020 the case fatality rate at the time was 6.39%. That means that almost 6% of the people who got COVID would have died from it" That is actually not true as many already had it but did not know. A NEJM paper titled "Covid-19 — Navigating the Uncharted" Used the cruise ship data and said this about covid "If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively." Fauci was the lead author on that paper and the NEJM has the highest impact factor of all peer reviewed journals. "And here's a big clue, hospitals beds are not free" The only place that saw hospitals being overran was NY. Other states were not. Also, it wasn't novel to have hospitals be overran. In 2018 there was a city in California who had to build temporary ICUs from tents as they were being overran by patients with the flu. We did not shut down then. Trump did all he could do with covid, it wasn't his fault that democrats kept the lockdowns going. If you look up FRED stats of All Employees: Total Nonfarm in X state, and go state by state, states that ended the lockdowns sooner reached their pre-covid employment numbers around a year sooner than states that kept the lockdowns going. States like FL, GA and TX reached their pre-covid employment numbers months before states like NY, CA and MI.

  98.  @Tony38533  so you expect the unemployment rate to drop over 5% when it was already sitting at 4.6%? Again, math is not your strong suit. Also, again, there is more to the economy than unemployment. Wages rose faster under Trump, worker participation rate was growing under Trump. "Then by Feb. of 2020 the Trump recession started." Sigh, a recession is 2 straight quarters of negative GDP growth. That did not happen. Please learn what a recession is. "By March 2020 the unemployment rate had risen to 4.4% " Ok, and? That is when the lockdowns were starting. March was when travel restrictions were being put in place along with covid being called a national emergency. I was in grad school still and I remember restaurants were only doing take out prior to spring break, which was in March. And after spring break there were the lockdowns. " Instead of relying on the Bush plan and doing contact tracing Trump just ignored COVID until he couldn't. " He didn't ignore it, he did several things within his power. He also did not want to create a panic. In fact, he approached it very well. Democrats were the ones freaking out leading to unnecessary long lockdowns where gyms were shut down but liquor stores were considered essential. Many of the restrictions made no sense. As a federal judge in Wisconsin said, shutting down the small hair salon does not reduce the demand for hair products, it just has more people gathering in large stores like Walmart. So that ended the restrictions overnight. Should have done it sooner as he was correct, many of the covid restrictions made no sense. The reality is that they were designed to destroy the economy to beat Trump. Explain to me how a gym is shut down but a liquor store is essential?

  124.  @alcibiadeslives  walls help. Nothing is ideal, but walls and barriers help. As for tax cuts for the wealthy, as Trump said in the debate against Clinton, she was in the senate for years, why didn't she raise taxes on them? Obama in his first two years had congress on his side including a super majority in the Senate. Why didn't they raise taxes on the wealthy then? Trump was able to get his tax cut on the middle and lower class through with zero democrat support. What are the excuse by the democrats? As for Roe v Wade, abortion is not a right, thus, like murder and traffic laws, it is a state issue. " Removing that has made it significantly more difficult for many women to get access to abortions." Actually not true as most states still allow it. that is why abortion is pretty much a non issue now, people have seen no changes overall. Just states set the laws now. " The majority of men and women in the country disapprove of the decision of the Supreme Court in this matter" And so what? If that is true then it will be legal at the state level as, again, abortion is not a right and thus is a state issue. I am pretty much pro choice myself in supporting rare, safe and legal, but I support the standard of the Constitution first. Also, in 2008 Obama said in a town hall one of the first things he will do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. Why didn't he? Why didn't congress, which democrats controlled, pass it? Here you are complaining about taxes and Roe being overturned when democrats have done nothing on their end.
