  2.  @Syndicatian  In general through history we see that there are periods of advancement interspersed with dark periods. There is no reason to think that pattern has ended. And for the first time in history we have the technology now to create a dark age that we may never come out of, or that might set humanity back 1000 years. So whether you're optimistic I suppose depends on your time frame.
