Except no slaves died in the process.

@Nova_501 Yes I can see how that can cause some lack of clarity as to what's actually going on here. There are lots of claims flying around about "energy from nothing", when in principle this is only true to the same extent as it is when we burn fossil fuels. Except of course, should the technology succeed, we would have an effectively inexhaustible resource to draw from. It's very interesting to learn more about it.

@texasslingleadsomtingwong8751 It's fascinating science, I appreciate the explanation and I'm hopeful they will realise it some day. However - not to be a Debbie Downer - we can not claim this is creating more energy than you put in. This is no more true than simply burning coal. It takes a small match to light a fire and we can get a huge amount of heat from burning coal as a result. BUT... that energy already exists locked up in "coal form" to begin with. I understand the claims being made now, but if we're being scientific, we would not be creating energy from nothing, even though it seems that way.

They didn't claim to, nor do they claim they ever will get more energy than they put in.

How can you possibly get more out than you put in? Unless we are in the matrix and physics is no more than an illusion.

@revc2010 You're not telling me that's seriously what they claim they can do? I knew it... Einstein was an idiot all along.

@asrieldartagnan9782 You're accepting that these guys are going to literally break the fundamental laws of physics. You accept t claim they are going to create energy... out of nothing...? And I'm the idiot?

@revc2010 I know that matter and energy are interchangeable. Please explain to me how this does not apply any more?

@revc2010 Well let's start with the big man himself ~ "Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another"

@revc2010 Okay you're trolling :) good one

@revc2010 Lol I never met anyone so dumb. Have you invested all your life savings in a perpetual motion machine? Because you're outputting 1000w of pure cope mate.

@revc2010 So just to douse the flames a little - When you say in a post further up "They are working towards getting more energy out than they put in", what I think you mean is they are working on a way to unlock the existing energy that's already there. Which doubtless should they succeed would be a vast supply and certainly more than _the energy used to unlock it_. It's kind of how it already works with fossil fuels. So I think we're misunderstanding each other. I remain sceptical that scientists are going to overcome the law of energy conservation any time soon.
