@moose9211 Ideally you'd think so but from what I understand nobody even knows how these things think any more so it's hard.

Yeah man. I'm so glad I didn't buy bitcoin in 2013.

"Hold up. Something's wrong here. Not sure what it is but I feel like we should take a step back and go through it again" Said no AI ever, past, present or probably future.

I guess they have to keep dreaming up ever wackier ways to justify their existence.
5
Or you get black vikings.

No, bringing politics into the issue is unseemly.

The thing about Mercury falling into the sun in just 5 million years I found amazing. I wonder what the chances are that there might have been another planet/s in relatively recent millions of years ago that suffered the same fate?

It is somewhat relevant that Agent Smith says the first Matrix was a paradise but it failed because humans thrive on strife. It's hard to be creative if you've never suffered.
2
Same reason everyone is suddenly trans I guess. It's fashionable.

It's an interesting idea, although very open to cheating. I'd imagine it would be easy to downplay one's abilities in order to be placed in a lower class.

@josjos-x5s The problem is that men and women of equal measurements are still going to have generally different abilities. I'm an average 170lb man and if you put me next to most 170lb women in any strength based sport I'm pretty confident I'd win 90% of the time.

She mocks "magical" thinking by people such as Roger Penrose, who theorises that human consciousness cannot be replicated with conventional physical means but rather requires a quantum element, and then asserts that, equally magically, some computer hardware on a GPU farm will at some time become self aware. How will this happen? At what arbitrary point on the scale of complexity between my toaster and Lt Commander Data does consciousness emerge?
1
@ralphmacchiato3761 You'll have to explain what Tuesday means. The conventional physics I'm referring to is binary computer technology.

In the average university it's well known that upwards of 90% are left leaning. They are a hostile environment for conservatives.

I see plenty of grads and PHDs who I would argue are mental slaves.

I scrolled down to read the comments and this one was all I needed.

Open borders eh. What a great idea.
1
Honestly if there's anything on the ingredients list that I can't pronounce, I avoid it.
1
I know I am so I have grounds to assume you are too. I don't believe the PC I built last week is conscious, and AI is running on essentially the same hardware as that.
1
I mean it's a Freudian slip. DEI is basically a society operating in a state of DUI.
1
Non-commutativity. That reminds me of when my car broke down and I couldn't get to work.

Chicken chicken chicken, chicken.... chicken chicken chicken chicken. Chicken chicken CHICKEN! Chicken chicken chicken 😂

"If we can be conscious, then computers will be too". Task tsk Sabine. A huge leap here, since we are talking about intelligences based on radically different mediums (biological Vs synthetic/silicon) and we have no idea if there is any similarity at all between their mechanics. This will be true until we create biological computers of some kind and even then good luck verifying if we are even approximating the processes going on inside the human brain (or for that matter the whole body ecosystem that actually makes our consciousness, our mood, our emotion etc). Does the human mind work on a binary basis like the computers that ChatGPT runs on? Sure, I'll grant you these machines might do a sufficient job immitating consciousness that it won't matter to most of the people who interact with them, but stating that a machine can ever be truly conscious, that is to be "experiencing" the fact of being, like a human is a breathtaking leap of faith.

Whichever way you cut it, free will can't exist. But in order to live a life with any meaning at all, we must pretend that it does. Or since it isn't even our choice to pretend in the first place, just go with the flow and don't think too much about it :)

Everything has a cause. And all the stuff that looks like it happened on purpose is an emergent property of this.
1
Now that thumbnail was worth a double take.
1
Or the DEI department for that matter.
