She mocks "magical" thinking by people such as Roger Penrose, who theorises that human consciousness cannot be replicated with conventional physical means but rather requires a quantum element, and then asserts that, equally magically, some computer hardware on a GPU farm will at some time become self aware. How will this happen? At what arbitrary point on the scale of complexity between my toaster and Lt Commander Data does consciousness emerge?

  3. I know I am so I have grounds to assume you are too. I don't believe the PC I built last week is conscious, and AI is running on essentially the same hardware as that.
