I've perfected the art of completely ignoring YouTube Apps. I suddenly become very interested in my ceiling or what's out my window for that 5 - 15 seconds.

More to the point how do you get them to watch anything other than some hysterically gibbering Minecraft streamer.

Eventually I predict a massive exodus from the internet back to IRL ways of doing things. And I welcome it.

Back in the early 2000s I used to buy a magazine called Computer Arts which featured creative work each month inside and on the cover disc. I used to marvel at the skill and creativity of these artists. Today I'm just mentally saturated with it and sadly I feel very little emotion. In no small part because you just have to assume anything you see is AI generated now.

It's turning out to be fake internet rather than dead. Although it's a trivial distinction.

@ Yes it's a depressing mental overhead that we did not have only a few years ago. Back in the day when you had no reason to doubt the human authenticity of art, it was endlessly inspiring and nourishing. I find it hard to feel this way when my default position is now "Well it's probably AI generated".

Yeah I mean.... Remember when search engines just let you search for what you were looking for? They just gave you a bunch of results based on what you typed in. I kid you not, I'm that old and I remember.

This is quite frankly what happens to the AI's basic reasoning as it recursively references itself. The natural lifecycle of these things seems to be that they go insane pretty quickly.

Lolbertarianism.

I share your pessimism. I've predicted for years now that the internet will become unfit for purpose as the fake overwhelms the real exponentially. I worry for young kids whose minds are already enslaved to social media and video platforms and who don't have a residue of pre-internet cynicism like I do. My hope is that we will have no choice but to revert to old fashioned, real world ways of doing things (and trust me I know... It was a better way to live. I'm an old Gen-Xer who has watched the internet from its first baby steps).

We seem to be of a similar age. So don't you, like me, have the nagging feeling that this internet thing is going to fall flat on its face one day? I can't see much alternative since it's clear that AI is going to occupy literally every atom of the online space - and scarily soon by the way things are progressing. Will they have time to iron out the recursive insanity before it's running everything? No. I predict the internet will die and rot. Possibly after a few disastrous wake up calls. And we will all be better off for it in the end.

The Butlerian Jihad is imminent.
